Hot air balloon Iceland
Limited Summer Pop-Up Series | July - August 2026 | Selfoss
A rare ascent above the volcanic wild. Drift in silence over glacial rivers and ancient lava fields. This is Iceland, elevated.
The 2026 Flight Project
Imagine a drift so quiet you can hear the island breathe. For a few precious weeks, we bring hot air ballooning to the ancient lava fields of Selfoss. This is Iceland from a perspective that feels almost impossible: no engines, no noise, just the rhythm of the wind and the occasional breath of the burner.
You will float over volcanic landscapes, emerald valleys, and glacial rivers in one of the rarest summer experiences the island has to offer. This is a one-month pilot project

For over 25 years, our pilots have taken balloons to six continents – from the Andes to the Alps, from African plains to Asian skies. Fred is a flight instructor and senior balloon pilot examiner, the person qualified to certify other pilots. Loris was born into the ballooning world. When balloon companies across the globe want the best, they come to him.
FAQ – Hot Air Balloon Iceland
What happens if the weather is unsuitable for flying?
Ballooning is weather-dependent. If our crew cancels due to high winds or poor visibility, you will be offered a choice: a full refund, a voucher for a future date, or an alternative tour of your preference. The final safety decision always rests with our experienced pilots.
Is there a weight limit for passengers?
Yes. For safety and flight performance, the total passenger weight must not exceed 600 kg per basket (up to 6 guests). Please ensure your group stays within this limit when booking the private experience.
What should I wear for a hot air balloon ride in Iceland?
Temperatures at altitude are noticeably cooler. We recommend warm, windproof outer layers, a hat, and gloves. Mandatory: Comfortable, closed-toe shoes with flat soles. No heels or open sandals are permitted in the basket.
Where do the flights take off, and is pickup included?
Flights launch from the Selfoss area. If you choose the transfer option, we provide pickup from any accommodation in the Reykjavík Capital Area approximately one hour before the flight. Otherwise, you can meet us directly at the launch site in South Iceland.
Are there any age or health restrictions?
The minimum age is 11 years, and children must be accompanied by an adult. This experience is not suitable for pregnant guests or those recovering from recent surgery, as you must be able to stand comfortably for the 90-minute flight duration.
